What is Central Office?

Central Office is the term most often used to describe the office of Al-Anon & Alateen of Central Ohio.

Officially, Central Office is an Al-Anon Information Service (AIS) and an Literature Distribution Center (LDC). The purpose of an Al-Anon Information Service is to aid the Al-Anon and Alateen groups it serves in the common purpose of carrying the Al-Anon message to the families and friends of alcoholics.

What is Intergroup?

The purpose of the Intergroup Committee is to assist Central Office in serving Al-Anon and Alateen groups of Central Ohio. The Intergroup Committee is made up of Al-Anon and Alateen members who do service as Group Representatives (GRs), District Representatives (DRs), Officers, Coordinators, and the Central Office Committee.

• Group Representatives (GRs) represent their individual meetings and are the voting members of Intergroup. Additionally, they represent their meetings at the Ohio Area Assembly.
• District Representatives (DRs) set the agenda for the Ohio Assembly and represent Central Ohio at the Area World Service Conference.

• Officers include the Chair, Alternate Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
• Intergroup Coordinators include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Liaison, Alateen Coordinator, Archivist, Bazaar Coordinator, Group Records, Helpline Coordinator, Institutions Coordinator Volunteer Coordinator, Literature Coordinator, Public Outreach Coordinator, and Ways & Means Coordinator.
• Central Office Committee oversees and manages the business end of Central Ohio Al-Anon Family Groups (AFG). The committee oversees day-to-day expenditures to ensure Al-Anon works within healthy financial limits, including maintaining a prudent reserve.

Time & Location

All Central Ohio Al-Anon and Alateen members are welcome and invited to attend Intergroup meetings.

Intergroup Meeting Guidelines

• Intergroup Etiquette: Many people dislike meetings - especially ones that gets bogged down in personalities, petty bickering, or redundant discussions. Intergroup Etiquette, in pdf, provides a common foundation, approved by the GRs, that allows the Chair to move the Intergroup meeting along. It provides agreed-upon guidelines for introducing new business, introducing motions, having discussions, moving business along, and overruling the Chair. Every GR, District Representative, Coordinator, and Officer should be familiar with the document.

The Steering Committee

The Steering Committee sets the agenda for the Intergroup meeting. Its members consist of Intergroup Coordinators, District Representatives (DRs), and Officers of Central Ohio Al-Anon Family Groups.
